Visiting Missionaries July 27-28!

Pastor Jacob Gillard will be preaching at all services the weekend of July 27-28. Jacob and Michelle Gillard serve the Lord in Uganda, where they work with the Lutheran Church Mission Uganda (LCMU). This youthful and energetic church body is only 13 years old, and in that short time, it has grown to 63 congregations. The Gillards help train, disciple, and walk alongside the leaders in this church body. The LCMU has one ordained pastor, one deaconess, 13 evangelists, many dedicated lay leaders, and six regional Mission Training Centers (MTCs) where lay leaders are trained. Because God
is growing congregations faster than he is providing pastors, leaders on the local level are asked to lead worship and start and nurture new congregations. Leaders receive training to do this at the MTCs. Fourteen Ugandans are attending a Lutheran seminary outside of Uganda and will soon graduate and return to join the work.

Jacob grew up in central Minnesota and attended Concordia University, St. Paul, where he earned his degree through the Oswald Hoffmann School of Christian Outreach. After graduating from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, he served congregations in Baltimore, Md., Robbinsdale, Minn., and Minneapolis, Minn. Jacob enjoys reading, fishing, and photography in his leisure time. Michelle grew up in Wisconsin and earned a bachelor’s degree at Concordia University, St. Paul, and was the first to earn a Master of Arts in Christian Outreach from the Oswald Hoffmann School of Christian
Outreach. Michelle’s hobbies include reading, walking, and outdoor activities. The Gillards have two daughters, Amelia and Evangeline.
Please pray for the Gillards as they serve in Uganda. They ask, “Give thanks for the fulfilling ministry experiences we have had in the United States, which have prepared us for new ventures overseas. Ask the Holy Spirit to provide encouragement as we say goodbye to family members. Pray for the Lord to give us traveling mercies and extra patience as our family transitions to life in Uganda. Ask for Spirit-filled and trusting relationships with our new co-workers in the LCMU. Finally, thank God for providing dedicated partners at LCMS World Mission who have made our mobilization so joyful
and hassle-free.” Visit http://ugandaconnection.wordpress.com for more information.

Thank you for supporting the troops
Thank you, because of your generosity we have been able to fill 14 boxes of items for our military personnel. We plan to continue to send booklets, such as Portals of Prayers and The Lutheran Digest, candy, other snacks, juice boxes, toiletry articles, greeting cards, and other miscellaneous items to
them. As a result of this last mailing the military fund is once again depleted and needs new donations. Please continue to keep our military in your thoughts and prayers. A special thank you to Peg Bradtke and Bob Enters who were a special help in this last mailing. Many thanks to them and to all who helped financially. Please notify the church office if there are any change of address. Returned packages are quite costly.

VBS coming up quick!
It’s just a few more weeks until Immanuel’s VBS!! Please join us as we celebrate Jesus, our forever friend, at Friendship Trek VBS from July 28 - August 1. Registration forms for children ages 3-years-old through those entering grade six are available at the Friendship Trek display in the vestibule. More volunteers are always welcome. Finally, please consider helping out by making a special offering to Immanuel’s VBS or by taking a tag from the Friendship Trek Tree in the church vestibule.

Thanks to you, from the Mexico Mission!
Thank You Members of Immanuel! The 2008 Juarez Mexico Mission Team and the family of Manuel Contreras Agulera thanks you for your generosity which made it possible for their family to have a safe and secure home. They were overwhelmed that people from across the border would show such an act of kindness. The team members would like to thank you for your prayers, which were helpful when challenges with the building and health issues came up. Again this was a humbling and life changing experience for our team. We cannot wait to do it again next year as the lead church, and take more with us to experience it for themselves. As soon as it can be arranged a short presentation will be shown to the congregation, Please note the 6th annual Mexican Fiesta has been planned for November 2nd at which time you can talk to the team members and see more pictures. Thank you again from the 2008 Juarez Mexico Mission Team
