Care and Share Fund PDF Print E-mail

The Care and Share Fund is a fund available to aid those who need temporary emergency assistance for food, clothes, gas, lodging, rent assistance, utility payment assistance, etc. It is funded by Immanuel’s receipts through Pick n’ Save. Members can fill out a form so that every purchase provides credit to Immanuel, for which Immanuel receives a quarterly check. (Our number, to be recorded on the form, is 355280.)

The disbursement of funds is done through the pastors discreetly. Contact Pastor Dan Schneider for more information.

Easter Baskets for Shut-Ins PDF Print E-mail

The purpose of this mission is to provide an opportunity for a visit to a shut-in (by someone other than a pastor). Once a year, at Easter time, the church office provides this ministry with the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of Immanuel’s shut-ins. Baskets are bought and Easter tags with the shut-ins’ information are attached to the baskets.

Baskets are placed on a table near the Information Center. Members of Immanuel are asked to take a basket, fill it with whatever they would like, then deliver them to the shut-ins before Easter. To learn more, contact Terry Krueger.

Monday Night Phone Bank PDF Print E-mail

Working with Pastor Ben, the Monday Night Phone Bank meets on Monday evenings to contact Visitors to Immanuel and members who haven’t been in worship for awhile.

Goals:

1.         All new visitors to worship (and special events) will receive both a phone call and personal note within 72 hours of their visit.

2.         Each week 10-20 members who haven’t been in worship for awhile will be contacted through phone and/or notes in the mail.  Recommendations for future action will be referred to the pastors.

3.         Data from contacts will be entered weekly into the church database.

To accomplish these goals, ministers help with various tasks:

•           Researcher - Targeting people from that week’s visitor cards and infrequent attendees (using membership records or the church mailboxes as indicator), find correct phone number and address using the Internet.  For members, check on date last attended, status, etc.

•           Phone caller - Using the information that the Researchers find, make phone calls to visitors or those who haven’t been in church for awhile.  Write notes about conversation.  Will also make follow up phone calls from previous contacts.

•           Note Writer - Using the information from the phone caller log, send a note or postcard as a follow up.  Also, for those we don’t have phone numbers for, send a note.

•           Data Entry - Enter the information from the contact log into the computer system.  Update any contact information, put in notes from conversation, etc.  Run report for Pastor.

“On the job training” is provided through prayer, guidance from Pastor Ben, and support from fellow ministers.  Ministers do not need to be available every week, but may simply sign up for times that work for them. Contact the church office for more information.

Premarital Counseling PDF Print E-mail
When a couple is engaged, an appointment should be made with a pastor to reserve the date for the wedding. At that time, the couple will receive the marital guidelines and information about the required premarital counseling. Our pastor's responsibility is not only to officiate at the Marriage Service, but also to prepare the couple for the years of married life.  Therefore, the couple is required to meet with one of the pastors for 4-8 hours of pre-marital preparation prior to the wedding.  Normally, the pastors will not marry a couple unless they have had the opportunity to spend adequate time in premarital counseling sessions or unless other acceptable arrangements have been made beforehand.

Contact Pastor Dan Schneider for more information.

Special Needs Ministry PDF Print E-mail

Believing that God fearfully and wonderfully created each individual and that all are precious to Him, the Special Needs Ministry seeks to minister to families and their children who are challenged with a wide array of disabilities, such as Down's Syndrome, Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, etc.

The Special Needs Ministry seeks:

1.      To provide a library of books relating to specific special needs for families, teachers, pastors, coaches, etc.

2.      To initiate at Pals Program (birth-8th grade) that provides one-to-one assistance in the Sunday School class. Pals also provide added direction and lesson adaptation for children needing a fresh, creative perspective for learning about God.

3.      To initiate a Respite Event Program, a fun-filled program containing age-appropriate games and activities for children with special needs and their brothers and/or sisters. The goal is to provide the caregivers the opportunity to enjoy some rest and relaxation off campus, while caring for the children in a safe and enjoyable environment. This event is by registration only.

4.      To encourage all members to grow in their knowledge, support, and compassion for those with special needs.

5.      To provide Immanuel Lutheran School and Sunday School teachers, pastors, and the school principal with information and conference/workshop opportunities to expand their abilities as they serve children with special needs.

The Special Needs Ministry meets at Immanuel on an as-needed basis. Contact Abigail Schlie for more information.

Stephen Ministry PDF Print E-mail

Stephen Ministry is a group of trained caregivers that provides one-on-one support for care-receivers who are experiencing a difficult time in their lives. Stephen ministers think of themselves as the hands and feet of Jesus, listening, praying, and sharing God’s love and words of promise with others.

Care is confidential, free, and can be short or long-term to help participants cope with faith-challenging circumstances such as births, deaths, addictions, illness, job loss, or divorce. Stephen Ministers undergo an application process that involves 50 hours of training and a two-year commitment. Ministers meet together on 2nd and 4th Thursdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the School Library (Rm. 118), and on an individual basis with care-receivers (usually 1-2 hours per week).

To become a care-giver or care-receiver, contact Matt Barton.
