Spotlight On ….. Funeral Luncheon Coordination PDF Print E-mail

How This Ministry Operates:

The Funeral Luncheon Coordination ministry is an on-call mission. Usually Immanuel hosts about 12 funerals per year. If the funeral is at Immanuel, a luncheon is offered to the family. If the family indicates they would like one organized, the church office notifies ministry leader Judy Reich, who then gets in touch with the family to decide how many people will be served, etc. Judy orders food for the luncheon from Pick ‘n Save. The family bears the cost of the food, but takes any leftovers home. Judy keeps a supply of paper products (plates, cups, napkins, utensils) and charges 25 cents per person served for use of these items.

Spotlight on.....PLACE PDF Print E-mail

How This Ministry Operates:

At Immanuel, our primary method for helping you discover and utilize your gifts and abilities is through a program called PLACE. The workshop consists of four classes, each an hour-and-a-quarter long. You are welcome to place your children in the nursery during these sessions.  During each session, you will learn more about how your personality, abilities, gifts, passions, and experiences coincide, and how you may want to use that information to further your involvement in ministry.  After the workshop, Lisa Jaeger, Director of Assimilation and Deployment, will meet with you personally to discuss your findings, and help you narrow down three to five areas of ministry that might be of interest to you, now or in future. The self-discovery process involved in PLACE is crucial for many people to understand their role in the Body of Christ.

Spotlight On....Lenten Soup Suppers PDF Print E-mail

How this Ministry Operates:

During the season of Lent, Soup Suppers are held between the afternoon and evening worship services, beginning Ash Wednesday and continuing for the five Wednesdays after that. No Suppers are held during Holy Week.

A Gathering of Friends for Delicious Fare – without the fuss!

These meals offer the opportunity for fellowship with other worshippers. They also provide opportunities for congregational members to serve their fellow members, allowing them to more easily worship on a work night without the challenge of also cooking and cleaning up for an evening meal. The monetary donations people offer are given to a specific ministry (this changes every year).

How to Get Involved:

Immanuel members are invited to sign up with a group of people to host a Soup Supper. This involves the preparation of soup and dessert, putting out milk and coffee, and facilitating set-up and clean-up. Soup Suppers are usually very well attended, so the hosts can plan to be busy! Currently a sufficient number of groups have signed up to cover this year’s Suppers.Plan to attend a Soup Supper this season as part of your Lenten worship experience! Your tummy and soul will thank you! (Remember the old adage that the way to the heart is through the stomach?)

Contact Soup Supper Coordinator Terry Krueger with any questions.

Spotlight on...Contemporary Music PDF Print E-mail

How This Ministry Operates:

The purpose of the Contemporary Choir and Contemporary Praise Band is to lead the congregation during the musical portions of “contemporary worship” services in a meaningful and enriching way that honors and glorifies God through various diversified musical expressions. Also, these groups sing an "anthem" or "special music" during those services.

Director Jay Isaacson utilizes the musical talents of various musicians inside and sometimes outside of the congregation, including voice, keyboards, guitars, bass, drums and percussion, and brass/woodwind instruments.

Contemporary services are held during the 10:45 service twice per month, September through June. Currently, the Praise Band is involved in the second Sunday, while the Contemporary Choir leads worship on the fourth Sunday. During the service, the singers and musicians are stationed up front, to the left.

Occasionally the Band or Choir performs at other times, such as for a Wednesday evening Lent or Advent service. A highlight for the Praise Band this past year was performing their fourth annual Christmas Caroling event at Brookfield Square Mall (see the Opportunities to Serve webpage under Ministry News and Photos and Media).
