CorpCare Distributions is a Milwaukee-based non-profit organization that receives new clothing and household supplies from local and national retailers for distribution to people in need. The CorpCare warehouse is located at 801 S. 60th Street. Volunteers are needed to assist in sorting, processing, and preparing clothes for shipment to the families that need them. CorpCare is dedicated to fulfilling the Gospel injunction, “The man with two tunics should share with him who has none and the man who has food should do the same.” Join others in reaching out to families who really need help. Immanuel ministries are invited to engage in community service by collecting food for two local food pantries. Church secretary Kim Graf will assist ministries with publicity for their food drive and with arrangements for food distribution. The group may choose to transport food to Hope Lutheran Church’s pantry, or Walther Memorial will pick food up from Immanuel and take it to their pantry. Contact Kim Graf for more information.

A Place of Refuge Ministries of South Wisconsin, Inc. enables people associated with the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod in the greater Milwaukee area to attempt to meet the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of pregnant women and their unborn children. Ministers at APOR assure women in crisis pregnancies that giving their unborn child the gift of life is an option, and provide friendship and assistance throughout the pregnancy and beyond. The Immanuel Lutheran Church Quilters, a support ministry of Women in Ministry, is an all-women’s group whose goal is to give comfort to individuals who are suffering and their families. They meet on 1st and 3rd (and sometimes 5th) Wednesdays during the months of Sept. – Nov. and Jan. – May, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Fellowship Hall. Once quilts have been constructed and sewn, the quilters attach a card to identify Immanuel as well as a Bible verse for the recipient’s encouragement. Quilts are then taken to recipients at Joy House, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, Froedtert Hospital, and the Salvation Army. Contact Fritzy Eggold for more information.
 
Refugee Co-Sponsorship PDF Print E-mail

Immanuel members work in collaboration with Lutheran Social Services to sponsor refugee families from around the world. Thus far, the Refugee Co-Sponsorship Committee has looked after refugees from Iran, Somalia, and Burma (Myanmar). This involves assistance with housing, jobs, and transportation as families settle in the United States. LSS is currently looking for ministers to care for arriving Burmese refugee families. Immanuel is supporting Pastor Kasongo Gui Kabeo, a pastor of French Speaking African Immigrants that meets on Sunday evenings at Benediction Lutheran Church, Milwaukee. We are supporting Pastor Gui as he receives theological training to become an ordained pastor. The annual budget supports 1/3 of this cost, a grant supports another 1/3, and the rest must be raised in special mission offerings. Giving Plus Program PDF Print E-mail

The Giving Plus Program provides a positive way to help fund educational ministries in the church. Matching funds and gifts are presently designated to supply financial assistance to students. Individuals may always designate where they would want their gift and match to go. To participate in The Giving Plus Program, individuals must be 16 years or older and benefit members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, or must own Thrivent Mutual Funds accounts and/or Thrivent Life Insurance Company products. Thrivent Financial will add $1 for every $2 contributed to Immanuel Lutheran School, up to a maximum supplement of $300 per year. Individual donations can be for any amount, up to $600 for each organization. Individuals can donate to two different eligible organizations each year. Individuals can donate whenever they like (monthly, quarterly, etc.). Forms are available in the church/school office. Give completed form and gift to Don Rohde or Jeanne Brusseau.    

 
Lutherans for Life PDF Print E-mail

Lutherans For Life is neither a church body nor a denomination but a voluntary organization of pro-life, pro-family individuals whose mission is to witness to the sanctity of human life through education based on the Word of God. Lutherans For Life promotes the sanctity of life by providing free resource materials (i.e. DVDs, books, exhibits, brochures, etc.) for a variety of topics, including abortion, infanticide, chastity, post-abortion, and euthanasia. The Milwaukee metro area chapter, called Exodus XX, holds general meetings at area churches twice a year, usually on a Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. Contact Robert Schweiger for more information.

Blessed Again Resale collects used clothing and household items in good condition. These items are then sold, with the profits going to support the work of A Place of Refuge (see above entry). Blessed Again Resale is located at 7624 W. Hampton Ave., Milwaukee. Christmas Mission Community Dinner PDF Print E-mail

The Christmas Mission Community Dinner ministers serve a Christmas meal to members of Walther Memorial and the surrounding community. Ministers also bestow a Christmas present on children in attendance. Donations of food and monies from Immanuel members are needed to serve this Christmas Mission Community Dinner to those in attendance. On average, the participants in this ministry have served 200 people and have given out more than 100 gifts to the children in attendance. Ministers meet twice a year to go over details. Milwaukee Rescue Mission Service PDF Print E-mail

Immanuel members in 8th grade and beyond are invited to serve a meal at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission once a month on a Saturday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Ministers may bring a dessert to pass, if they wish. Ministers meet at Immanuel and carpool to the Rescue Mission, where they serve food (no clean-up nor cooking on site is required). Contact Andy Halstead for more information.

One of Immanuel’s ChristCare groups, led by Carole and Elaine Schmeda, invites the congregation to join them for Wheeling For Healing, an annual bike ride that benefits the Community Memorial Hospital Cancer Treatment Center.
