How This Ministry Operates:

The Funeral Luncheon Coordination ministry is an on-call mission. Usually Immanuel hosts about 12 funerals per year. If the funeral is at Immanuel, a luncheon is offered to the family. If the family indicates they would like one organized, the church office notifies ministry leader Judy Reich, who then gets in touch with the family to decide how many people will be served, etc. Judy orders food for the luncheon from Pick ‘n Save. The family bears the cost of the food, but takes any leftovers home. Judy keeps a supply of paper products (plates, cups, napkins, utensils) and charges 25 cents per person served for use of these items.

A Little Hospitality Goes a Long Way….

Grieving families appreciate not having to worry about meal preparation during their time of loss.  “I was very grateful for the wonderful way Judy and her helpers handled everything,” said Sigrid Marquardt of her husband Leslie’s funeral. “They were so very nice and very helpful and they did a wonderful job. I really did appreciate it,” said Eleanor Duenze of her husband Fred’s funeral. How You Can Get Involved in This Ministry:

Judy currently has a list of approximately 30 women from the congregation whom she calls upon to participate in this ministry. To supplement the grocery store food, ministers assist by preparing salads or desserts for the luncheon. Help is also needed with set-up and clean-up. Ministers can also commit to helping on an ongoing, rather than rotating, basis – Madalyn Leissring is one member who faithfully serves as an assistant at every luncheon.

Members wishing to participate in this ministry may contact Judy Reich or complete a Ministry Interest form, found in the Fellowship Hall Rack, and put it in Lisa Jaeger’s mailbox.
