How this Ministry Operates: The Immanuel Information Technology ministry provides information about Immanuel Brookfield using information technology. The Immanuel Information Technology ministry maintains a presence on the World Wide Web and provides information about our ministry and current news to members and non-members alike. The ministry maintains and plans for future growth of Immanuel's church and school computers and networks. Computer literacy and experience with Website building is desirable. Ministers meet once a month on a Saturday from 9 a.m. – noon. Recently Completed ProjectsHere’s a sampling of what the Information Technology ministers have been working on at Immanuel: 1. At Immanuel Lutheran School: a. Enhanced the school computer network to allow better simultaneous access. b. Computer maintenance: Over the summer, all the school computers (more than 70 machines!) were physically cleaned. Operating system updates, IE 8 configuration and software maintenance were also performed. c. Replaced 20 CRTs with more energy efficient LCD monitors in the school computer lab. Rotated newer CRTs with the older ones and recycled the oldest 25 CRT monitors. Eliminated all the 15” CRT monitors in the school. d. Upgraded the school file server to a new quad core system that was generously donated by a member of the congregation. This new server enables an internet content filter with content caching. e. Enabled computer audio to be sent to the TV in the 5th grade classroom (video was already being sent to the TV) f. Enabled computer audio and video to be sent to the TV in the 7th grade classroom. 2. At Immanuel Lutheran Child Care: a. Repaired 3 computers in the Child Care. 3. At Immanuel Lutheran Church: a. Upgraded the church file server to a new quad core system that enables internet content filtering in the revamped fellowship hall and the new conference room. The wireless access points are available to the congregation and the SSIDs are ‘ilc fellowship hall’ and ‘ilc conference room’. No password is required but users should be aware that large file downloads are restricted to conserve bandwidth. What’s Up Next? The Immanuel Lutheran Information Technology ministry is planning a review of the software currently in use on the school computers. The ministers are also investigating whether different operating system packages like Ubuntu CE, or Edubuntu would be useful. Plans are also in the works for updating the main church Website. Maintaining the church office and school computers will remain a priority. Could Helping with Immanuel’s Technology Needs be Your PLACE? The Information Technology Ministry is seeking equipment and helpers! 1. Contact this ministry if you have new or lightly used computer equipment or money to donate. 2. Join this ministry if you are interested in helping out! Contact Ministry Leader Larry Ploetz.
