Construction update as of June 14 PDF Print E-mail

We are pleased to advise that our construction contract has been signed with our General Contractor, Berghammer Construction, and we obtained the required lien waiver forms from each contractor who has already done work on our building for the demolition, HVAC mechanical controls, asbestos testing, and pre-construction work. As a result, our mortgage lender, Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF), agreed to have the closing on the loan on Friday, June 12th and our construction loan funds are now available to us. This means that the construction of our new classroom, and expanding our parking lot can now start ... soon.

We are still slightly delayed as we wait final approval of the civil site plan and storm water plans from the City of Brookfield. The plan reviewer has limited office hours so the approval should be received on Tuesday, June 16th. In the meantime, we have received an interim building permit which allows us to begin construction on all interior work. We have had the boiler and all areas to be remodeled tested for asbestos as required by the State. The work on replacing the boilers which heat our building is starting on Monday, June 15th by Envira-Tech Mechanical (Seider Heating). This will take approximately a week to complete. We will be removing the cabinets from the kitchenette area in the fellowship hall and these will be donated to Sherman Park Lutheran's new Youth Center. Preliminary work should begin this week on the fellowship hall to prepare the connecting hallway for the classroom addition. The remaining trees have been removed from the construction site. As soon as the full building permit is received, a construction driveway will be built approximately where the 135th Street house driveway was. This will be the base for our new parking lot and will allow trucks to enter the property and go around the east side of the school to get to the new classroom area. How exciting! Now is the time that we as members have to be extra alert as we enter the property and building. Please watch for any signs directing you of areas to avoid and be careful when walking near a construction area. To parents of small children, please keep your kids close so they do not wander into a restricted area. If you are at church/school during the week, watch our for any construction equipment and please try to stay out of the way of our workers so they can get their work done on time. As the project progresses, we will have some designated tour times so you can see the progress of the work. Safety is our #1 priority and we don't want any accidents to spoil the excitement of the Summer of 2009!

Thank you for your prayers that our loan would close with LCEF ... now pray that we don't have too many rainy days!
