Showing our support for our Military serving us in the Middle East DATE: September 13TH 1:00PM TO 7:00PM IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH The first camouflage quilt was designed and made by Linda Wieck in 2006 for her son-in law Todd, who was being deployed to Iraq and asked her to make him a quilt to take along. His specifications were that it be small, made from camouflage cloth, and it needed to have cotton batting. It needed to fold into thirds and roll like a sleeping bag so it could be used as a pillow or protect him from the harsh elements. Since the initial quilt was made in 2006, hundreds of Wisconsin volunteers have donated funds, supplies or given of their time, to make 1,500 quilts for our military. Linda Wieck, along with Diane Meyer and their spouses, operate Camo Quilt project out of a donated warehouse space in Plymouth,Wisconsin. Any Marine or soldier, serving in the military and deployed to the Middle East, is eligible to receive one of these quilts FREE! The military only issues a bulky and hot sleeping bag which must be carried inside their backpacks. The Camo Quilt is so popular because it is lightweight, can be used in the open and tied to the outside of their kit, leaving room inside for personal items. Krueger’s Christ Care group has committed to holding a workshop here at Immanuel on September 13th. Linda and Diane will be here to show us the techniques needed to cut and assembly the quilts. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT ! 1) Pray for the project’s continued success and for many volunteers. 2) Donate funds for supplies or give monies to cover the cost of shipping the quilts. 3) Check out the list of needed supplies and purchase an item to donate. 4) Sign up to come to the workshop. SEWING SKILLS NOT NESSESARY/ Both men and women needed to work. Please check out the Camo Quilt Project display board for more information. |
